Much to my surprise I have been awarded the 2011 Gold Star Award for Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Science. This is an especially sought after award since the nominations for the prize come directly from students and are considered by a panel of student representatives who select a winner in each Faculty.
I am therefore delighted to be given this award and would like to thank all of the students who took the time to nominate me. This is easily the biggest honour I have received in my 18-year teaching career at the University of Reading and it will reinforce my commitment to teaching and learning as being the most important activity undertaken by university academics.
